What is it?

The E-TOC database includes the tables of contents from most of the journals subscribed by any of the University Union Catalogue of Catalonia participant institutions (CCUC). This application enables search by journal title, ISSN or subject, or by article author/title. Limits can also be used to search only in full text e-journals. In addition to that, users can subscribe to the E-TOC e-mail alert service for any journal included in the database in order to receive by e-mail the alert of new issue published. This service is available for users of the E-TOC participant institutions.

Each journal record has always a link “Consulta’l” (consult it), that joins E-TOC database with the CCUC, where you can locate which libraries hold that journal in printed format, with a reference manager that allows to download the bibliographic citation, and in some cases with the Digital Library of Catalonia to view the full text of the e-journal (to access, search must be done from an authorized point of the net).

If journal articles are not available in full text in the Digital Library of Catalonia, it can also be obtained in printed format through the ILL services. To request an item you only need to enter the E-TOC, click on the "Consulta'l" (consult) button beside each article citation and finally "Ask for".

Most E-TOCs are dated from 1999 and on, though in some cases there are E-TOCs available from previous years (specially from distinguished Catalan scientific journals). The E-TOC database works as a repository and contains tables of contents from some journals that are no longer received by any CBUC participant institution (either because its publication has been discontinued or because none of the libraries has renovated the subscription).

This database is nurtured on the E-TOCs supplied by participant institutions, provided by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and by Dialnet. Over 450.000 E-TOCs, belonging to nearly 13.000 journal titles, are available at the moment.

The database is updated daily. The participant institutions upload E-TOCs from the journals assigned to them every day. Moreover, once a week an ASCII file is uploaded, containing the complete E-TOCs generated by content providers. This file is automatically checked and compared with the list of journal titles subscribed by the CCUC participant institutions, using the ISSN as the reference field.
